Safe Spaces for Youth has been this year’s theme for the UN’s International Youth Day, and our activities also followed the universal needs of youth to come together, pursue their ambitions and interests, and express themselves. While there are many types of spaces, safe spaces ensure the dignity and safety of youth. According to UN, “…safe spaces such as civic spaces enable youth to engage in governance issues; public spaces afford youth the opportunity to participate in sports and other leisure activities in the community; digital spaces help youth interact virtually across borders with everyone; and well planned physical spaces can help accommodate the needs of diverse youth especially those vulnerable to marginalization or violence.”
Throughout our activities, including the presentations of youth organizations, a panel on youth and youth spaces in Varaždin, film screenings and the entertainment program, we have also tried to emphasize the importance of ensuring safe spaces for youth in our local community and are very passionate about advocating for them through the future projects and activities we are planning to carry out.
